Boiled Mackerel with Soy Sauce

Mackerel (Ikan Kembung : Indonesia) is my mom's favorite fish. Now, fovorite fish of my kids. They love fried or boiled with thick soy sauce. To boil the mackerel, I mixed with some vegetable such as carrot, cucumber and zucchine, I cut julienne and added some lemon juice. Yummy. My kids always said, We want the soup of fish...:D


Ingredients :
  • 2 mackerel, cleaned and cut.
  • 1 carrot, julienne.
  • 1 cucumber, julienne.
  • 1 zucchine, julienne.
  • Bird eyes chili as you like.
  • 1 cm turmeric.
  • 1/2 medium size onion, roughly chopped.
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped.
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil.
  • 2 tbsp thick soy sauce.
  • Salt as needed.
  • 1 - 2 tbsp lemon juice.
  • Water as needed.
  • 1 stalk lemongrass, crushed.
Instruction :
  1. Saute onion, garlic, turmeric, lemongrass, bird eyes until fragrant.
  2. Pour water and simmered until boiled, add the mackerel, lemon juice and soy sauce. Simmered until boiled.
  3. Add the vegetables and cooked until tender.
  4. Ready to be served.
